Live, Love, stay on Drugs

Today I wanted to just write down my thought on the “state” of things right now. Not that I feel things are inherently bad, just that a few things might need a little nudge in a new direction.

I have been a diabetic coach for a year now. And there does seem to be a bit of a floor in the system on how we are helping people. Yes I inform people on the pit falls of eating a modern diet that would mostly consists of ultra processed food (upf’s) I use the word food begrudgingly, as lets be honest, it’s not actually food is it. The issue is what about when they are finished the programme? what’s next for them?

Is it a life worth living if you put all this effort into improving your health, to get yourself away from being metabolically damaged only to be told that you still have to take the same drugs that probably were the main reason that your blood sugar has gone so high. I know it’s not just the drugs in themselves that causes this problem, but it’s not helping.

What I’m getting at is there needs to be more after care for the folks that have to go through prevention programmes. The people I speak with are worried or concerned that there’s no effort coming from their medical practitioners. I get there is a strain on the system and maybe there can’t give individual care, but there has to be a system or group that could provide some form of medical care or information. I had a gentlemen who takes stains, and blood pressure medication. During his time with me he’s brought his blood levels back down within normal range and he’s lost some weight and is doing a little resistance training too. He went and spoke with two different doctors to see what his options are in regards to his medication. He told me that the doctors came across disinterested in what he wanted and told that he had to keep taking them.

He was actually a bit annoyed by it all. No tests or even advice was offered as he told me. He asked me. Well I’m not medically trained, also I couldn’t think of anything other than speaking with a private practice doctor, maybe they would offer something. This is what I mean, it feels like you’re driving on a motorway and all of a sudden the road just ends. No signs or anything to show you where to go next.

is it just me that thinks this? Any advice on this would be amazing. Do I need to get a medical education just to be able to help him and others like him?

Rant over for me, like I said, this was something that has been on my mind recently.
